17th – 18th December 2011

CAMP AFRICA IN COLLABORATION WITH CHRIS TOKALON

Presents

‘Celebrating Sounds’

Tucked away in the heart of the far south Cape peninsula, Camp Africa offers a unique getaway, less than an hour from the city of Cape Town.

Apart from the exquisite nature trails for hiking and an authentic campsite experience, we are offering an opportunity to interact with an accomplished musician, sound therapist and comedian in the form of Chris Tokalon, on a weekend that promises to be an unforgettable experience…Focusing on various aspects of the creative uses of sound as an uplifting and transformative device,  Chris will conduct an interactive music circle, take you on a sound journey and perform his 1man 1mouth music and comedy show : “Don’t Tune me I’ll Tune You” which features the ‘Marvellous Mouth.’

Fireside jam sessions will take place afterwards, as Chris will be staying at the camp overnight.

This is an invitation to nature and music lovers to go on an adventure, explore the realms of sound and get blissfully lost in a world of music, to return renewed and inspired for the rest of life’s journeys……

“It (all) started about 10 years ago, through a personal need for transformation and a need to channel my creativity into something more spiritually fulfilling. I got tired of playing jazz in smoky dives for people who were there to drink or chat each other up”.

Here’s a taste of what you can expect during this exclusive weekend with Chris Tokalon at Camp Africa:

Saturday

INTERACTIVE MUSIC CIRCLE

Playfully and gently, your own personal instrument , the voice, will be coaxed out of mothballs to produce sounds of instruments ,or animals, or whatever you like and the group will make magic as each one of us finds a place in the groove . Simple instruments like plastic pipes will be used as the group is divided up into different rhythm sections and fun is the order of the day, as well as re- discovering your musicality!

“I facilitate interactive musical team building” he says. “We get people to make music together as a metaphor for learning how to work with one another. It’s simple and it’s fun”.

EVENING SHOW Don’t Tune Me – I’ll Tune You’.

‘It’s an entertaining and wacky show of music and comedy combined” he says. “I do impersonations and musical imitations. It’s made possible by modern technology, with this loop pedal that I’ve got, a Boss DD20. It enables me to multi-track myself live; I create my own backing band in front of the audience. Once I have created the foundation – like the base and the drums and a horn section as well with my voice, then I sing, or play the flute or sax, over the back-tracks that I’ve just done.”.

LATE NIGHT FIRESIDE JAMS

After the main attraction, whisk out your drums, guitars, etc, and jam with Chris around the crackle of a fire. How often does a chance like this come around?

Sunday

A SOUND JOURNEY - a tune up for body, mind and spirit.

Take a holiday from your busy mind, day, life – and what better setting then Camp Africa?

Lie down, close you eyes and receive a soothing sound bath, live from a variety of unusual and evocative instruments as Chris skilfully takes you on a sound journey. Accompanied by the sounds of nature, this experience will give you a massage on a cellular level , helping to release stress and trauma. You will be serenaded by flute, overtone singing, Tibetan bowls , the hang drum* , rainstick and various other toys and surprises and will emerge from the soundscape feeling calm and energised. Afterwards you will get a demonstration of overtone singing and be shown the basics of this amazing skill.

This is an exclusive experience and tickets are first come first serve.

We only have 40 spots!

Earlybird tickets available at R595.00 (includes Accommodation, Entertainment, Sound Journey, special activities, salads (bring your own meat and drinks), endless camp fires, breakfast, and the most unique experience under the southern skies)
